| Blue Quartz Server |
|
The Blue Quartz server provides LMN members with web-based email. The
server works best with software loaded on each individual PC.
Members should select and install email software on their PC workstations, such
as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Messenger, etc., to manage
e-mail. Outlook Express is software included free with Microsoft
Internet Explorer (MSIE) browser software. Email client software is
faster, more efficient, and works more capably with the server.
Outgoing or SMTP Server: webmail.lmn.lib.al.us
Incoming or POP3 Server: webmail.lmn.lib.al.us
UserName: (This is your username issued by LMN)
Your email Address: username@lmn.lib.al.us
The web interface can be used from home or anywhere in the world to
check/send mail. The SMTP/POP/IMAP method of checking/sending email can be used
from anywhere, as the server is configured to use POP-before-SMTP.
Do not
run two pop clients at the same time, however. It is fine to use Outlook from
home and from work, but do not leave Outlook open at home and at work at
the same time. Be careful how the POP program is allowed to pop messages
as they will not be able to be retrieved from the web interface if your email
client is set to "POP" them off.
(Check the box "leave a copy on the server" or equivalent to use both the web
and pop methods to send/receive email, but also be aware that each user is
limited to 50Megabytes of email so messages messages cannot be left on the
server forever).
